First Chronicles September 2010
Making a Difference
"Let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven." (Matthew 5:16)
How are you making a difference for Christ in your family, church, and/or community? God uses all kinds of poeple and things to help make a difference in the lives of individuals and his church. I was reminded of that truth recently when it was time for the Children's Story and all the familiar children began to come down to the front to hear Kevin's story. On this Sunday there was a new little boy who seemed to respond to every question asked by Kevin and he even felt free to stretch his answers. There were even times when Kevin had a difficult time getting a word in edgewise! That was my first introduction to a little boy named Will. It took a short time for the church congregation to come to know and appreciate the energy and intuitiveness of Will. I looked forward seeing Will up front during the Children's Story wondering what he would say or do next. Will is a very ambitious and curious boy...just ask those who saw Will dive into the communion bread plate to pick a few pieces of bread, or those who saw him do or say some things that other church kids were not used to doing or saying. Will was a learner and also was willing to help whenever and wherever possible. It was just before the Sunday Evening Service of the 'no show' Journeymen Quartet that I knew we needed to look at plan B. There I was in my office looking for songs to sing when Will pops in my door and inquired to what I was doing and then asked 'can I help?' Surprisingly during the service, while song favorites were being voiced I began to hear a child's voice calling out numbers...and sure enough it was Will! I often wondered if I was seeing a young Apostle Peter when watching Will in his outgoing, outspoken, lively personality. Will has moved on and I don't know if we will see him again, but he will certainly be remembered. I believe God spoke to us through Will. What he said to us through Will is for each one of us to interpret for ourselves...but I just want to thank God for the time we had with Will. Make a difference for Christ by using the personality, talents and gifts given to you by God..
